August New Release Showcase for Aurora Wings

It's an exciting day on the Aurora Wings Showcase Blog as Mitzi releases the remaining 4 Sprites in the Zodiac Sprite series.  We're starting off with Sagittarius Sprite to which I've added one of the Stars 2-pack available exclusively on AuroraWings.com HERE .  I colored him first with Copics and then unfortunately set him aside.  My plan was to color a night time sky, but because I was a bit concerned about messing up, I then left him for last.  In the end, my eyes gave out, so I recolored a digital background in my Printmaster Platinum Program and added my already colored Copic work on top for the final project. Then I added a bit of chalking to continue the starry glow.

Here's the actual original coloring of these images, before I decided it was too late to color the background manually.  Because I had added the additional star cluster and it was late in the game, the idea of fussy cutting seemed daunting as well, so for the final project, I removed the white background, as printed and colored with Lunapic, added it to the digital background, and printed it with my Printmaster Platinum Program.  Phew!  Although this deepened and blurred some of the Copic strokes on the final project, in the end I was pretty pleased.

Capricorn is my hubby's sign so I decided to make a birthday card using this adorable image.  This time I actually used two digital papers from Gecko Galz together, by cropping one to make more of a rolling sea (with what sort of looks like some jungley land in the background?), adding the png version of Capricorn Sprite and coloring him with Copics after printing.  I finished it off with papers from Graphic 45 and a peel off sticker sentiment.  (Kind of manly, don't you think?)

Here's the closeup for this cutie.  Hope I can still find the card when David's birthday rolls around.  LOL

I'm adding this to the DL.Art Thankful Thursday Birthday Theme (Happy Birthday month, Diana!), the August a2z Scrapbooking Birthday Challenge, the Outlawz Festive Friday BirthdaySimon Says Monday Happy Birthday,...

Beautiful Aquarius looks lovely and serene in this setting, don't you think?  After coloring with Copics I fussy cut her and added her to papers and sentiment from Heartfelt Creations.

Here is her closeup.

And finally we have Pisces to complete the entire series.  Aren't they just fabulous?  Again I used the png version to print on a digital background from Gecko Galz and then colored with Copics.  The vibrant colors of the background seemed to beg for bright goldfish colors and I was thrilled that additional papers from Graphic 45 added to the look I was going for.

Here is their closeup.  I was hoping the star looked like a starfish to complete the underwater theme.

I'm entering this in the August 2 Crafty Critter Crazies ATG with Critter Challenge, The World Wide Open DT Challenge ATG (July/August), Crafty Animals #29 August AG, the Outlawz Festive Fridays ATG...

Here's the fabulous coupon for this weekend, good in both shops on all images and PDF's.

And that's not ALL!  There's an extra special addition to the Showcase that you won't want to miss.  You can get all the the information on the Showcase Blog and please visit my second post showcasing these additional adorable Christmas images HERE.

EEEK!  Breaking news!  There's now a surprise GWP this weekend, as well.
How fun is this little cutie and friends?  You'll get them automatically with a qualifying purchase in either shop (after coupon) and it will be sent via email within 24 hours.

Gotta say, I had to look up Axolotl and found they are an endangered species.  I was not surprised since Mitzi has always been a champion of animals in trouble.  I say we should flood our blogs and FB groups with colorings of these cuties to increase awareness of their plight.  xxx

Aurora Wings June Showcase!

It's another exciting day at the Aurora Wings Showcase Blog where Mitzi continues with the second chapter of her newest theme, Zodiac Sprites.

Here we have Leo Sprite and what a cutie he is! And how much fun to color!  I mainly used Copics with a bit of added fur detail with Prismacolors on is fluffy mane.  I couldn't resist African inspired papers from the ancient DCWV Safari Kids stack and tried to use sentiments that reflected some aspect of each sign's personal characteristics.

And here's the closeup of Leo Sprite

Next we have Virgo Sprite.  How beautiful and fair she is!  The sheaf of wheat she's carrying brought to mind my favorite song, "Fields of Gold", (as sung by Eva Cassidy, not Sting) so I used a golden background from K&Co and colored her in a light (what you might call a "virginal") palette with Copics and glitzed out her star with Wink of Stella and a gold and white gel pen.  Both her sentiment and Leo Sprite's came from Tim Holtz's Small Talk stickers.

The next two projects required the png version of the image because they were printed on digital backgrounds, and then colored with Copics.  I personally always use the png version, when available, because they give the most options.  I enjoy merging images, as well.  So here is Libra Sprite, trying hard to keep balance, which is more tough than ever these days, if you ask me.  Again, I've colored with Copics with gold and silver gel pen accents.

One more Zodiac Sprite for this Showcase, here's Scorpio!  I had big plans for a torn paper desert sunset background for him and then realized I had no white core paper. :(   Instead I searched for images and found this free wallpaper.  Okay then, that works, but at first I flipped Scorpio Sprite because it worked better for the placement of the sentiment (also printed right over the background) so I flipped the image.  I went to color and realized OOOPS!  That made the symbol on the star BACKWARDS!  Fortunately, I could flip the background instead, which gave more room in the lighter area for the sentiment,  (a bit of a double entendre, if you're aware of one of the Scorpio traits that wasn't mentioned in the Showcase.)  Tee hee! ;D

Believe it or not, that's not all!  One more Sprite of the floral variety can now grace your garden.

Meet beautiful Hollyhock Sprite!  I adore Hollyhocks and there are so many gorgeous shades to color them.  I know I'll be using this beauty again and again!  Here they are in a garden setting I've fashioned from  layered Spellbinders Regular and Decorative Grand Labels One dies. The intricate floral arch is the Garden Arbour die by Tutti that I've adorned with flat back pearls.  The decorative gates were cut with the Pretty Piazza die set by Tonic Studios. I've used this combo of dies before, but it's one of my favorites for a garden or wedding theme.  Here's I've flipped one of the images so I could have them facing each other, one at each level.

But who are those cuties on the bottom?

Does anyone besides me remember making little dolls out of the
hollyhock blooms?  These precious girls are a surprise GWP!
See coupon below.

And for any Aurora Wings purchase this weekend, not just the new images...

Be sure to visit the AW Showcase Blog for more fabulous inspiration from my Showcase sisters and interesting information about the Zodiac signs themselves.

And don't forget, you have two more days to join the June FB Challenge in the Stamps by AuroraWings FB Group.  It doesn't have to be a full project, or even a new one!
