Aurora Wings July New Release Showcase

Today's Showcase for Aurora Wings features 2 gorgeous new images that can have as many interpretations as your imagination allows.  The first is Gemini-Abundance Twins, a new take on the Zodiac theme, quite different from adorable Sprites from the last two Showcases.  Hate to say my first thought was not of ethereal beauties enveloped in flowers, but of the "evil twin"...oops!  I printed them in a light grey, my original plan being to color both images in neutrals.  But after I'd finished the one, she looked more haunted and sad than evil, so I decided to treat the two as aspects of the same person instead, coloring the beauty on the right in light and airy pastels.  Again I reached for the Tim Holtz "Small talk" sticker sentiments, and the one I used here sealed the deal.  I truly believe that if you can't learn to love yourself and find happiness within, you will never find it.  It is your own responsibility and no one else's. xxx

I'd bought some faux Yupo paper from Michaels and decided to try and do an alcohol ink  and blender background from dark to light, only to find that the stuff really didn't flow like I'd imagined.  Fortunately, there was enough on the opposing corners to allow me to use one of the Spellbinders Large Decorative ovals for the affect you see.  I found papers in my stash and tore one on the diagonal and finally matted it all with the back of a Restoration Hardware catalog I'd saved.

Here's a closer look at Gemini-Abundance Twins, colored with Copic markers.

The second beautiful image is called Abundantia's Blessings.  Another WOWSER, huh?  Thinking of the bounty of harvest time I went with a Fallish rather than Summer palette.  (My fave season)  You will see on the Showcase Post the many possibilities there are for this image.  My first color choice for the flowers was the deep burgundy red for the peonies but then I had some trouble with the orchids, as the extra detailing I'd done on them made them sort of all blend together.  Hubby helped me with the rose and butterfly color choices but by Tuesday evening (yeah, I tend to cut it close ;D)  I was ready to start over.  Early yesterday morning I was determined to salvage the coloring, or throw it in the bin and start anew.  I began shading with a dark umber Prismacolor pencil to give more depth and definition and fortunately, it did the trick.  Better yet, the cover of the K&Co paper stack had the perfect cut out all ready for me.  The gorgeous crinkle ribbon bow includes 3 colors from DL.Art.  The sentiment is another from Tim Holtz.

Here's a closeup of Abundantia's Blessing.  (Sorry it's a bit cut off, but the photo in size "large" wasn't much bigger than the full project shot.)

Last Saturday a number of the Design team sisters and artist friends of Aletha Jane Williams participated in a Blog Hop in conjunction with the Memorial Service held by her husband in Tulsa OK.  Mitzi honored her by creating Passion Flower Sprite, available only at AuroraWings.com in jpg HERE and png HERE.  That cutie graces today's coupon.

You may use it throughout the weekend, not only for the new images, but any that you desire in both shops.

Now, be sure to visit the Aurora Wings Showcase Blog to oooh and ahhh at the fabulous creations by my DT sisters.  The variety in interpretation is amazing and sure to inspire.

And don't forget our monthly challenges are now on FB (with extremely relaxed rules, check it out!) in the Stamps by AuroraWings FB Group.

  1. Spectacular projects, Donna! I love your take on the Gemini - two sides of a single person - and the all-important truth in the sentiment you chose for the image. Your coloring is beautiful as always, and the diagonal split design of the card creates a perfect backdrop. Great design! Your Abundantia in rich colors is truly opulent. The rich autumn tones go beautifully with the sage and forest greens - Magnificent! Thank you so much for the breathtaking inspirations today. M xxx
