BBTB2 "Princess" Challenge

Okay, so I lied. In all my years on BBTB & BBTB2 I've only missed 2 challenges and was late twice (counting today). I never intend to miss a challenge but occasionally it happens. Our lovely Mona chose the challenge this week, asking we use the WORD "Princess" from any cart. I thought I could let this one go too, but with the minimal turnout this week, knowing that a few of our "never miss" gals couldn't make it and at Jezebel's insistence("but Mommy it's a PRINCESS Challenge!") she reminded me at 4 AM this morning, here it is. I screwed around designing something for days and it wasn't going as planned. Jezzie has been quite miffed that she'd not given Daddy a card for Christmas, Birthday, or Valentine's Day and if I didn't get my butt in gear, she wouldn't have one for Father's Day either. Cindy Loo was still in my Expression from last week and it has quite the "boofy" kitty on it so that was a start. Ditto the font, although I HATE things without shadows! In DS I welded "princess" along the side of a rounded rectangle from George and added a big heart and kitty.

Big surprise it's a shaped front card, eh? That was part of my problem this week, trying to make something different for a change. The letters were very delicate, hanging off the side like that, so I cut them several times for strength and glued the final layer slightly off set go approximate a shadow. A little note here. When you're adding a lot of dimension to the front for a card like this, you have to be sure the back can support it. My inside mat is fairly thin so it's not standing up so well. I'll be adding at least one more layer (maybe two) to the back of this card for strength and however I finally decide to do the sentiment inside will help as well. It's not going through the mail so...

We had a bit of a discussion about what color a "Princess" kitty should be. Jezzie always wants to be white, but I'm trying to teach her that all colors are beautiful (and I'd already picked out the DP) so this one is brown. "Well, at least she should be furry!", so of course parts are flocked, "and she needs a crown and bow, and pretty necklace and PINK nail polish!" Nail polish? "PINK, nail polish! You just did YOUR toes." (Not pink, though) Okay, okay! See why it takes me so long to finish a card?

I honestly planned on not doing so much dimension, but the thing had taken on a mind of it's own (Jezebel's, actually) so there ya go. I'll probably be adding "from your" to the heart on the front, but we'll see. Sorry it's late, but better late than never. Macabre Monday Off With Their Heads!

WooHoo! This week's Macabre Monday Challenge at Haunted Design House is Off With Their Heads. Create a dark, creepy or Halloween based project by switching heads and bodies on one or more images. Fun, eh? Even more fun, our challenge this week is being sponsored by one of my absolute FAVE Stamp companies, The Octopode Factory. My lovely lady is from the Zombie Love set added to the Breakfast at Tiffany's body. She's colored with Copics and sports a Prima Rose. I've cut the frame with my Nesties Diamonds and added Nestabling around the opening. The mat is embossed with the Cuttlebug Harlequin folder. The sentiment is a Cricut cut from Graphically Speaking.Both the mat and diamond interior are raised on foam dimensionals. I've use a toothpick for her cigarette with additional bling for the smoke. Her dress is covered in Stickles. I'm also entering this in this week's TOFF's Bling it On Challenge. Dilly Beans Skulls and Skellies

This week at the Dilly Beans Designers and Challenge Blog our challenge is Skulls and Skellies. WooHoo! Right up my alley! Although there are tons of fabulous skellies at the Shop, I chose one of Megan's newest Dia de los Muertos #384 Sugar Skull and Flowers. I really got a kick out of his hair and just couldn't resist the sentiment. He's colored with Copics with a bit of gel pen detail. The little cross is cut with the new Spellbinder's die out of mirror card stock. His frame is my new Labels Twenty Three out of K&Co Portabello Road DP rimmed with peel off vines.

I printed the image a number of times to get the dimension I was looking for. Had to pump up that pompadour! There's lots of eye candy from my DT sisters so be sure and check out the fab inspiration at the Challenge Blog and we can't wait to see what you come up with. Please note that I woke up today and Blogger decided to suspend my commenting abilities. I've never had this happen before but I know others who have. Any ideas on how to fix this? How FRUSTRATING!

Just couldn't couldn't contain myself and made another ATC for Wicked Wednesday Easter or Bunnies/Chicks Challenge using a fab FREEBIE form DT member Mary Kwok's new blog Cakewalk by KWOK. Isn't this sweet little Bunny Family the cutest? They're colored wth Copics and not much more was needed. The Easter eggs are Queen and Co brads, a tiny ribbon and Voila! If you haven't already seen my chicks ATC, please scroll down. Too bad I can only enter Wicked Wednesday twice because there's more unbelievable cute images available HERE. If you're like me and been sort of hard pressed to enter additional challenges lately, why not try Wicked Wednesday? Working on a canvas that's only 2 1/2 x 3 1/2" goes pretty darn fast and is so much FUN!

Wicked Wednesday ATC #1

I sure do love making ATC's and this one is especially special because it not only is for the Wicked Wednesday Easter or Bunnies/Chicks Challenge, but I've also used one of the FREE DIGI's from DT member Mary Kwok's new freebie digi blog Cakewalk by Kwok. Mary is a frequent participant in many of the challenge blogs, often with her own fabulous artwork as see on her blogs Happy Bunny and Le Beau Reve. Here's my first ATC done with her free image Chicka Dee which I've cropped, merged and flipped several times. I've tried to approximate feathers using Copics and added a cute dragonfly brad and ribbon bow. the sentiment is commputer generated. ATC's are so much fun and faster to make than other projects so I encourage you to visit Wicked Wednesday for great inspiration and the chance to win a prize each week. BBTB2 Cindy Lou Flourish Challenge

Happy Monday! I think we're finally getting some sunshine today. Hasn't been too great a Spring here in CA, although we need rain badly. This week our sweet and talented DT sister Julie H, from across the pond, has chosen any flourish from Cindy Lou for our BBTB2 Challenge and WOW are there PLENTY! Of course, as always, you may use any flourish from any cartridge to join in, just make sure the chosen cut (flourish) is a Cricut cut. I decided to make another Easter card and chose Fourish 2 on page 30 because it made a great base for the shaped card I had in mind. I welded the shadow of the flourish to an Egg from Easter 2010 and a rounded rectangle from George.

It's a shaped front card and the egg on the front hides a large portion of the back so there's lots of room for a sentiment. The hopping bunny is also from Easter 2010. I cut him in light brown and flocked him, then added a pompom tail, beaded nose and eye and a sweet ribbon around his neck.

Originally, I'd chosen another rabbit (one with a shadow) but the flourish has so much movement, I thought the hopping bunny would be fun, especially after I decided to put him on on an Action Wobble. I ran into a teeny bit of technical difficulty though, because one layer of dimension with the adhesive foam wasn't enough to allow the bunny freedom of movement so I cut portions of the fourish away where the hind foot and tummy got caught and added another full flourish on top.

He's slightly off set from another bunny cut underneath him which shows when he wobbles. I chose the colors from the egg DP and looking at it now, it kind of has a 50's vibe.

So here's the dimension shot. Inside it'll say "Hoppy Easter" but of course I was running too late to have that done for you. LOL A flourish is such a great cut because there's no limit to the type of card you can make as you'll see by the fabulous examples from my BBTB2 teamies HERE. Macabre Monday Grimm's Grimmest

We're back for another Macabre Monday at Haunted Design House and this week we're celebrating the Fairy Tales of the brothers Grimm. What, you say? Fairy tales? Seriously, these stories were not for wimps and we're here to remind you of the sinister characters and gruesome deaths more likely to keep you awake than lull you to sleep. I've chosen Little Red Riding Hood. I borrowed this pic by Marufoi at Deviant Art. She really looked "kick ass", however, notice the missing right arm? I added a fab digi of a snarling wolf (Wolf 4) by our own Minion Sister Ike who is sponsoring the challenge this week. More of her fab digi's can be seen at her SHOP. I merged him with the artwork and colored him with Copics. Looks like he's back for another bite, but Red has other ideas. The fab mat was done with the MS "cracked" punch around the page. There's a Party Going On at Dilly Beans

This week's theme at the Dilly Beans Challenge Blog is PARTY! I couldn't resist using the sweet #350 Amalia's Balloon Framed because what's a party without balloons, eh? I colored her with Copic to match the colorful DP from the 6x6 MME Lime Twist Life of the Party pad. Perfect!

My party girl has a little brad crown and I've embellished simply with some dotty ribbon and a #1 paper clip. BBTB2 Welcome Challenge

We have a very exciting challenge for you at BBTB2 this week. Our fabulously talented Theresa is welcoming you all and inviting you to participate by using the word "Welcome" from any cartridge on your project. In case you aren't challenged enough, she'd love to see a Home Decor project, although that is NOT a requirement to enter the challenge. I have to admit I had a tough time this week. Lots of stuff going on (not the least of which is March Madness and my alma mater MSU is the #1 seed in the West Region this year, as well as the Big Ten champs! WooHoo!) I looked for a cartridge I'd never used and found "Welcome Spring" on Phrases. Seeing that tomorrow is the first day of Spring, I thought it was just perfect. I wanted to make a little door hanger and welded the shadow of that cut to the "snail" cut from Botanicals. Where's the snail? Well, he got sort of hidden with the welding, but I only really wanted the floral border anyway.

Because there is not a lot of detail on the Botanicals silhouettes, I used a Copic to add some shadowing to the leaves and after much head shaking, embossed them with Swiss Dots as well for a little texture. I moved the cut down on the screen in DS and cut it again in white so I could fussy cut the blossoms and pop them on top. I had the hardest time with colors and actually cut the shadow of the phrase 4 times (don't you HATE that?) before deciding on the plaid from Nana's Nursery. Ditto with the words and bird. To give a little more pop to the phrase I ended up gluing 2 of them slightly offset and highlighting them with adhesive beads. My DT sisters had much more success with this challenge than I did, so please pop by BBTB2 and go have a look and find out about our exciting SPONSOR for this week's challenge. Macabre Monday "Can I Quote You on That"

It's another Macabre Monday at Haunted Design House and our challenge is create a dark, Gothic, or Halloween based art piece using or inspired by a quote. Just so happened while making my Cruella card set last week I came upon another quote by Coco Chanel that fit the bill. My stamp is Christine from the Glam Vamps set by Smeared Ink, colored with Copics, fussy cut and popped on an embossed Bricked background from Sizzix. Thought it gave an urban vibe. Wouldn't really like to meet up with her in a dark alley anytime soon.

The quote reads "A woman has the age she deserves." Lucky vamp! She looks none the worse for wear and will stay that say FOREVER... the blood spatters are from the Inky Dreams (retired) rubber set, also from Smeared Ink. So what say you, or whoever?

The Altered Alice Chapter 13 The Best Butter Week 3

Happy Sunday! It's the 3rd week of our monthly Challenge at The Altered Alice .


"The Hatter was the first to break the silence. `What day of the month is it?' he said, turning to Alice: he had taken his watch out of his pocket, and was looking at it uneasily, shaking it every now and then, and holding it to his ear.
Alice considered a little, and then said `The fourth.'
`Two days wrong!' sighed the Hatter. `I told you butter wouldn't suit the works!' he added looking angrily at the March Hare.
`It was the BEST butter,' the March Hare meekly replied.
`Yes, but some crumbs must have got in as well,' the Hatter grumbled: `you shouldn't have put it in with the bread-knife.'
The March Hare took the watch and looked at it gloomily: then he dipped it into his cup of tea, and looked at it again: but he could think of nothing better to say than his first remark, `It was the BEST butter, you know.'"

For the month of March, how could we resist a challenge honoring the March Hare? We are challenging you to use "the best butter," as in butter yellow!

I made a Tent Card using instructions from SplitcoastStampers. I've tweaked the proportions to make it large enough to use my Nesties Labels Seventeen for the window cut-out. The long piece is 12 x 5 , folded in half to make the standing part and I've widened the added base accordingly. Here's a side view to show the dimension both in and out.

The pocket watch was cut with my Cricut using the Disney Classics cartridge and mounted on acetate to add structure and allow me to attach Tim Holtz Game Spinners for hands. The clockworks inside were cut from chipboard in my Cuttlebug using a Tim Holtz Die, painted with acrylics, and the "best butter" is a Viva Pearl Pen.

The fabulous March Hare stamp is from our sponsor Red Eowyn. It's so perfectly detailed that I didn't find the need to color, but I've added a miniature butter knife to his hand, as Alice looks on in horror. I fussy cut the image and popped it on a double shot of Nesties Labels Thirteen. The large butter knife behind was cut twice (once flipped) from mirror card stock using my Cricut From My Kitchen cartridge and glued together to be double sided. The handle was embossed with a Cuttlebug border. Lots of that "best butter" still on the knife.

The sentiment is a mix of computer generation (cut and mounted with Nesties Petite Ovals) and the Cuttlebug Monogram Seals Emboss Plus folder. I used a metallic gel pen to enhanced the embossed letters and mounted each on a punched circle. Dilly Beans Stars Challenge

This week at Dilly Beans we're seeing stars. Do you wish upon a star? I certainly do and so does little #274 Heart Monster. You have to believe in your heart for wishes to come true, though, so be sure to close your eyes and WISH HARD!

I flipped him in my Printmaster Platinum program, printed him twice, colored him with Copics and popped him on a starry night easel card made with the smallest of my Nesties Grand Circles. Then I added gold mirror mats using the next size up. The midnight blue card stock has a pretty shimmer and the stars in the sky were embossed with the limited edition Cuttlebug Christmas Stars folder and then inked lightly with Platinum. I colored some tiny adhesive stars gold with my Gold Leafing Pen and added him to his eyes. The wishing star is cut with a Nestie and scored and folded. I have a tutorial HERE if you're interested.

A larger Nestie Star is popped on the base to hold the easel up and the sentiment is computer generated.
