Oh what a beautiful morning a Lovely Blog Award and a Winning Card

This is going to be a lovely day. First I received this beautiful award from Barb. It's called the "Marie Antionette a real person, a real award". Isn't it gorgeous!?! Barb does some amazing stamping so you must go visit her blog Made for Keeps. Thank you so much! I'm passing this lovely award to some of my friends from across the pond. Be sure to stop by for a visit.

I also found out I won the Bitten by the Bug Star Contest and a wonderful prize from Sweetarts Paperie. Krista and Penny put together the yummiest kits so I'm sooo excited. Thank you so much Regina for the super contest and Krista and Penny for your sponsorship.(Is that a word?) I promise to return and share the love but DH is chomping at the bit. We're driving to the coast for lunch (with the top down) today because it's been in the 70's all week. Jealous y'all?

BBTB Star Contest entry and Day #9 of Jen's Card a Day Challenge

Here's my entry in the current contest over at Bitten by the Bug. We were to make a card using the colors pink, yellow, blue and green and have a star somewhere. This card is inspired by the song"Catch a Falling Star" ("and put it in your pocket" for those of you too young to remember it. LOL) I had this in my mind as soon as Regina announced the contest but just couldn't find appropriate paper until I came across a 6 x 6 pad of Urban Prairie by Basic Grey. I welded a square from the Plantin Schoolbook cartridge (for the card back) to the cylndr 2 (page 97) from George, the star from Plantin Schoolbook, and the moon and stars from Paper doll Dress Up. Once cut, I trimmed the top of the cylinder to form a pocket shape. Each individual shape was cut at least once again in different prints and popped for dimension. The moon and stars were cuttled with the Swiss dots folder and then cut again so I could cut out each small star individually to pop. I was excited to find jewelled stars at J's in the appropriate colors for accent. The large top star was cut and folded to give it a 3 dimensional shape and attached along the edges with rolled up glue dots. The flourish is from Home Accents cut in both shadow and regular and added between the flat and dimensional stars. I cut another pocket and attached it at the side and bottom edges only to allow the star to fit in it. I fussy cut the lower butterfly from another sheet of the paper, attached it in the center only, and embellished it with a jewelled butterfly on top. More adhesive gems were added to all of the elements for glitz and the entire card was matted with another square of BoBunny dotted card stock. Be sure to check out Jen's blog HERE to see all of the beautiful cards she's created in January.

OMG I WON! (My turn to toot. LOL)

What a fantastic week! Monday I found out I was the winner of Kimberly's Vintage Christmas card contest at Kiki's Crafts with my rocking horse card and this am at 4:45 PST (Goliath was raising a ruckus so I had to let him out and just HAPPENED to pop on my blog) I discovered I had won Regina's Non-traditional Color Christmas Card contest at Bitten by the Bug with my deer and citrus snowflakes card. WooHoo! Christmas sure came early for me! Thank you soooooo much! It was an honor to be chosen from such a talented group of designers. Thought I'd repost the pics just in case anybody missed them but there are more detailed ones under their individual posts. Be sure to stop by both sites to see the other gorgeous entries. There's already a new contest posted on KiKi's blog and Regina will be announcing one soon.

BBTB Non-Traditional Christmas Contest

This is my entry into the current contest over at Bitten By The Bug. We were to do a Christmas card using non- traditional colors. My color inspiration came from a box of frosted citrus colored primas that happened to have two peachy snowflakes included. I used Design Studio to weld a square from Plantin Schoolbook to the shadow feature of the deer and snowflake from Christmas Solutions and another snowflake from Accent Essentials. I used Provo Craft peach cardstock (the 12x24" size because the design was so long). I placed it near the bottom of the mat so as not to cut the entire deer and trimmed what hung down even with the card back. I cut it again in shadow without the card back in silver mirror board, then 3 more times on regular in copper. All layers were popped. (Honestly, I need to buy stock in that company!) The snowflakes were also cut out of peach glitter paper from Best Occasions. The deer body was cuttled with divine swirls and the antlers embellished with silver adhesive beads. I went kind of wild with ribbon but I couldn't restrain myself. LOL On the inside I covered another square of the peach cardstock with creamsicle tulle for a little more texture and trimmed it with a silver peel off border sent to me by my friend B-bug. The Merry Christmas is a peel off from Stampendous. Finally, I added the original prima peach snowflakes that I stickled a little more with copper. It just dawned on me that this also fills the bill for this week's challenge at Hallmark Scrapbook which was to use any snowflake cut. Yahoo! Better go post there too. MAJOR UPDATE: I WON FIRST PLACE!

Rocking Horse Hallmark Scrapbook Challenge

Did you ever have a card that conspired against you? Well let me tell you this one was it! I won't bore you with all of the details, but it came THIS CLOSE to ending up in the circular file at least a dozen times. It turned out okay, but let me tell you that there were no intentions of the tree being filled with the Martha Stewart branch punch. The base was welded in Design Studio using a rectangle from Plantin Schoolbook and the shadow versions of the tree, and rocking horse from Joys of the Season, the teddy bear from Christmas solutions and another rectangle from PS to represent a present. (Sorry the inside is posted first but originally I hadn't taken a pic with the card open and when added I it to the post there it went and honestly, I'm too tired to change it. LOL) It all fell apart when I cut the regular versions of the same images and the tree (or 3/4 of it due to the welding) looked funky. I cut off the curly cue side branches but that looked worse. I tried another paper, again, yuck. I really liked the base paper pattern so I thought maybe it would be okay just leaving it as sort of a patterned background but when I finished embellishing the rocking horse and bear the tree looked ridiculous. Nothing left to do but start punching, and punching, and punching. My arthritis started kicking in so it is not nearly as full as some of the beauties on the Cricut message board but it will have to do. The star of this show was supposed to be the rocking horse after all. He did get a floss mane and tail and an embellished saddle and bridle. The lovely peel off corners are from my friend B-bug on the Cricut message board and the sentiment is a rub on which should have been matted and popped but I was ready to let this one go. Me and my big ideas! LOL I'm just happy to have completed another challenge! Bummer, even the pictures aren't great because I was losing the natural light, and I took them twice. Update! I decided to enter this card in Kiki's vintage Christmas challenge and I won! Yahoo!

Sleepy Hollow (My First Contest Entry)

This card was inspired by an old root I found on a walk. It reminded me of the scary tree in Sleepy Hollow so I took it home and made this card. The background paper is actually text from the book which I distressed and highlighted some of the words. The full moon is cut twice and popped using Accent Essentials. I used Storybook to cut the window for the diorama and sprayed the cardstock with black gold glimmer mist. The side panels were cuttled with distressed stripes to make it look like bark and the antique gold metallic letters are from M's. I added a scary pumpkin brad and the off cuts from the Martha Stewart bat border punch. Because they were too small to pop dot I fashioned wire in a sort of flight pattern and adhered them back to back. I thought this card would be fun to enter in the Halloween card contest on SistahKiki's blog and I WON!!!!!!! For my prize I chose the Haunting Halloween stamp set from Stampin'Up. ( because of the kitty) WooHoo! Thank you so much Kimberly and all who voted for me.
