Tea for Toes

Here's another take on the Tea Things challenge at The Altered Alice. I'd been thinking about this for awhile. This is actually one of a pair of altered slippers I'd made for a girly pajama party get together at the gift shop in our local nursery awhile back. There was a slipper decorating contest and of course I participated. My other slipper had a martini glass on the toe and I did win first prize. When I saw the Alice challenge I thought of the tea cup slipper and decided to add things to make it more "Alice".

I have a mini deck of "Alice " playing cards and chose appropriate images to add to the ivy vines. Also the key to Wonderland.

I polished an old silver spoon that doesn't go to any set and added it on the side. This card has the Hatter shoving the dormouse into the teapot.

Fortunately he's escaped and managed to climb into a cup with a tea bag (Earl Grey Double Bergamot...YUMMMMM!!!)

Drink me? Gladly! Once the dormouse gets out of there.

I felted the dormouse myself. Every seen felting tools? Those 3 sharp needles are pounced over and over into your fiber of choice (usually wool roving) until you get the shapes you want. However (I'm gonna warn you now, stop reading if you're the squeemish type because I've gotten a load of EEEEEWWWWWW!!! reactions) this dormouse was felted out of Jezebel's fur. LOL There are wads of it after Daddy combs her and I thought it was a perfectly logical although somewhat ironic to use it to make the dormouse. (Actually, I was collecting it to felt a replica of Jezzie for her to give to Daddy for Father's day but he was so totally grossed out by the idea, I didn't finish it. I certainly didn't tell Jezzie I made a MOUSE with her hair or she'd have had a fit!) But honestly, it's not like I stuffed a pillow with it.

Here's a side view. See, it really is a slipper. That brown thing off the back it winds around my ankle to keep it on my foot. Tea for Toes. I would have taken a pic with my foot in there, but I didn't shave my legs today. LOL (OOps, was that TMI?) There's still time to join in with The Altered Alice challenge for this month. These are loads of fun and the Design Team and the participants are super inspirational. If you love Alice, it's a must!

  1. You crack me up lady! Too funny! Love the Alice slipper(glad you actually showed the slipper at the end, cause I wasn't gettin' the whole "slipper" deal), but the best part is your "crazy cat lady" felted doormouse! Stellar felting! Really nice. My cat Chubz, is a Norwegian Forest cat with TONS of light fluffy hairs to felt into something gray. I am inspired by your wonderfully wonky cat hair felting!

  3. THANKS for playing along with The Altered Alice! This project really cracked me up; I can just picture you mincing around the house with Alice's teacup on one foot and your martini glass slipper on the other! I'd love to see the full effect, LOL! I also think it is totally cool that you felted the cat hair. I have two cats and a bad back, so I just name the dust kittens that sometimes blow along the boundaries of my tile floors. TMI? I also brush my cats all the time and get tons of fur each time and it certainly is lovely soft stuff. I don't see anything wrong with that at all. After all, yarn is spun from brushed out fur, can you say CASHMERE? ALPACA? And what about chopped of sheep hair for gosh sakes, I think we call that wool? I'm a knitter too so this whole thing has hit my funny bone, tell your hubby to get over it, LOL! FANTASTIC project, THANKS for joining in!

  4. Hahahahahaha - how coooool is that. I can see you now trotting round in that hahahahaha I'd particularly love to see the workings of the felted dormouse. I have tons of furbabies here (well 12) and one of them is a look-alike for your baby girl. Can you tell me how you did the dormouse - do you sew and stuff after you made the felty stuff bit ??????
I could send you some fur bunnies - there's masses blowing round in my place and being as I have ALL tiles on the floors they are way obvious !!!!! Call me a craft slut then, but I don't care. I love to write 'clean me' in the dust on the coffee table. When my Greek neighbour comes I see her eyes flick round... I'm probably the talk of the mountain, but fiddle dee dee I say hahahahaah :-D

  6. So funny! Love the doormouse... that would completely have Goliath confused. Tea bag tags look great and I love that it is a slipper, so fitting for your Popsicle toes. Shave your legs and make another doormouse! Lol... Now news is Jacob is on his way to you shortly. I don't wanna see his head shaved and a new little doormouse popping up OK? xx

  17. OMG Donna you little sneaky talent! This is so freaking beyond wonderful, when I saw it my eyes nearly popped out of my head you have gone to town. Why is using your cat's fur any more or less gross than using a sheep's fur, at least you know where your cat's fur has been. Seriously amazing, so so so so so so love this and in the teacup too, freakin adorable x

  18. Donna, this is over the top! You must be a riot IRL! To come up with such a composition --- well, you are a genius!! Love the tea cup, love the Earl Grey, even love the mouse. BTW, this is our big wedding week so I'm not getting much done in the way of challenges, but if you have a minute hop over to my place for a peak at the rehearsal dinner decorations. I didn't get to carry out my big plans for the party favors, but I do have Cricut cut lighthouses on them! Sending you big hugs!

  23. I was not grossed out about anything in this post. The only thing I kept thinking is I want whatever it is that she is drinking, eating, smoking, to get that creativity. At first when you said slipper..I was like what slipper what the heck I don't see a slipper, but then in later picture I could see it and almost fell from my chair. Where do you get these ideas. I LOVE that you made that mouse with your fur babies fur. I think it is cool, being you have had lots of little mouse gift left for you as of late. Where did you ever get this idea. Also do you have a photo of other slipper you made I would love to see it. Amazing Donna.

  25. Too funny that you made the mouse out of cat hair! I have three cats. The hubs is a little light on the lid and once used the cat hair as a mock tupee. Love this post you really had me laughing! Such a creative project!
