Dilly Beans In Stitches

It's Friday, and that means time for another fun challenge at the Dilly Beans Designers and Challenge Blog. This week we're all "In Stitches", challenged to use stitching of some sort, either real or faux, by hand or machine. To be honest, although I have a real sewing machine, I've never used my good one to sew on a project, although I've used my "mini mender" to pierce holes in my card and used a pen to connect them. This time I wanted to try something different. My first (several) attempts involved the "Sew Easy" stitch piercer. Ummm...let's just say that's a total misnomer. I either couldn't see the dots for stitching (and then do you have to poke them anyway to stitch? guess so) or when I pressed harder, the card stock buckled and creased. With lighter paper, it ripped and I'm pretty sure it wouldn't have held up to stitching anyway. Then I saw a scrap of this polka dot DP and got an idea. It looked like a party so I chose the adorable #191 Cupcake Girlie and colored her with Copics to match.

I found embroidery floss to match, as well, and used a needle to poke holes in the center of 4 of the dots and evenly around each circle and stitched from the center out. I popped my image and matted it several times, including one I embossed with the Polka Dots Cuttlebug folder to carry the theme. My fabulous DT sisters came up with all sorts of creative ways to interpret the challenge, so please stop over to the Challenge Blog and be inspired. I'm also entering this is The Stamping Boutique challenge which is also stitching.

  1. I'm right there with you on the Sew Easy gadget. Of course, I bought almost every single stitch wheel and just can't seem to get it right. But what a great alternative you came up with. Really makes those dots stand out and of course adds great texture to the card. Gotta love Cupcake Girlie...she is perfect on that polka dotted background! Oh, and the embossed mat peeking out gives attention to the colored mats as well. Another cutie, Chickie!

  6. Hi! thanks for letting me know about the word verification, I didn't even know it was on there. Its super annoying, I'm 23 and I can't even read it! I think I figured out how to disable it, let me know if there is any further issue.

    Thanks!

  9. I love the stitching! I've never been brave enough to try it, as I can't sew at all, but it really does add the wow factor and give texture to the card.
