Baby's First Christmas Tag

Here's one more tag using the adorable Not-So-Helpful Christmas Penguins from Scrap N' Dipity.  She's such a cutie, she had to be pink and I kept thinking how sweet for a Baby's first Christmas.  I made her for the 12 Days of Christmas celebration at the Markers! Papers! Digis! FB Group but added all the sparkle to join the Scrap N' Group November Glitter Challenge (which happens to start mid-month so you still have 'til Dec 15th to enter).

The various textures I've used on the penguin and background are a little hard to see, so here's another view.  I paper pieced the stocking with digital paper from Gecko Galz (that I've shrunk down to mini size) and added flocking to the toe and Flower Soft to the cuff.  I colored the penguin with Copics and added a sheet of Be Creative Tape so I could then dust her with microfine glitter, but I added her eyes and fussy cut little beak beforehand. She's popped on a panel of glitter lace.

That panel was made with a large piece of open lace was adhered to another piece of Be Creative Tape.  I first applied pink glitter to the openings in the lace, then carefully lifted it off after dusting off the excess.  Then I sprinkled on the microfine clear over the whole piece and it stuck to where the lace had been, leaving the pattern.  It was a larger piece, but it had been on my crafting table for several years so I decided it was time to use it and cut it to fit the tag. The trim was pinched with a MS punch, also left on my table from a previous project and I used silver border stickers and hearts to finish it off.  Although I'm thrilled to have used up some scraps, it doesn't begin to put a dent in the mounds of stuff I have EVERYWHERE.  LOL

I'm also adding this to the DL.Art November Linky Challenge, the Outlawz Twisted Thursday ATG Challenge, Holly Jolly Christmas Anything but a Card, Tuesday Throwdown Make a Tag, In the Pink Cute and Cuddly and Dream Valley Winter Animals.

The Outlawz Progressive and Wednesday Sketch Challenges

So here I am all worried about finishing my card for the November Freebie/Progressive Challenge on the Outlawz Forum when I realize the Wednesday Sketch Challenge ends TODAY!  Yikes!  Change of plans, well, not really because I had no design plan for the coloring of the adorable Micemas Post digi from Di's Digi Stamps.  So here's the sketch.

There's was no way I could have made the center image an oval, but it worked out okay.

Here's a closeup of the sweet image from Di's Digis.  Thanks so much, Di!  I've colored with Copics and a gold gel pen and did a tiny bit of shading with my Prismacolor pencils.  I was thrilled to get this image for free by signing up for the Freebie/Progressive Challenge and then if you finish a project within the month, you get the next month's sent to you automatically. Such a deal!

I'm also entering this in the Craft Your Passion ATG Challenge, Critters and Creatures November Linky Party, Lil Patch of Crafty Friends ATG and A Snowflakes Promise Winter

2 Tags from Scrap N' Dipity

I don't know about you, but I'm WAAAY ADD today.  It's nearing the end of the month and there are lots of challenges I want to enter.  There are still several things going on in conjunction with the 12 Days of Christmas on the Markers! Papers! Digis! FB Group.  Here are 2 of the 3 tags I've made using the Not-So- Helpful Xmas Penguins from Scrap N' Dipity.  (only $1.00 through November 30th so HURRY!)  I printed this first little guy on some Digi paper from Gecko Galz that I sort of compressed into a tag shape in my printing program. Added a little trim on the bottom, some candy cane ribbon and a sticker sentiment from my stash.

I colored the little guy with Copics and I've used Sparkle Fluff flocking on his ear muffs and some gel pen on the ornament cap.  then I carefully cut away the bulb and added  one of the freebie Christmas Bulbs from Scrap N' Dipity that I sized to fit and covered in Diamond Glaze for shine.

I'm entering this in the DL.Art November Linky Challenge and Creatalicious ATG w/optional sentiment.

The second little penguin is looks like an outdoorsman, so I created a little winter wonderland for him using a background from one of the Gecko Galz "Jewel It's".  I colored him with Copics and used a "Snow Writer" (I had to reconstitute because it was so old) to add dimension to his hat.  I sprinkled glitter on it before it was dry because I also wanted to enter this in the Scrap N' Dipity November Glitter challenge.  I also used some Stickles to highlight the snow in places and some epoxy snowflakes with star centers.

Had one heck of a time getting a "glitter shot" but here ya go.

I'm also entering this in the Creatures and Critters November Linky w/optional create an outdoor scene, the Dream Valley Winter Animals, Glitter and Sparkle Blue and White, Holly Jolly Christmas Anything but a Card, Come and Get it Baby it's Cold Outside and the Outlawz Tuesday Color challenge.

Multicultural Santa Skin Colors

Okay, so it looks like I'm not going to get this done today, but since there were so many FB requests, I'm posting the unfinished coloring of the "Laughing Santa Mandalooney Coloring Page" by Bloobel Stamps with the skin tone color combinations I used.  I was inspired by my friend Cathy Preissing's gorgeous card featuring multicultural skin tones but did not necessarily have the combinations she listed, so mine were a bit of trial and error.  To be honest, I usually have a bazillion markers all over my desk so this was a first for me that I actually wrote them down for each Santa.  Yea, me!

So here goes.  The Santa combinations are listed by the number on their hats.

Santa #1: E11,00,R20
Santa #2:  E25,27,15,13,11
Santa #3:  E30,33,R20
Santa #4:  E50,53,21,Y23,YR00
Santa #5:  E11,34,13

The good news is, those are the Copics colors I used.  The bad news is I'm not sure in which order, or how many times I went over the colors to blend, etc.  I just messed with them until they looked good to me.  Hopefully this helps, though and I appreciated the nice comments.  xxx

Let the Merrymaking BEGIN!

Hope everyone had a fabulous Thanksgiving, but now the SEASON is in full swing so we better get down to business.  I actually made this card a few days ago with plenty of Sparkle and Shine for the Outlawz Monday Greetings challenge of the same name, but just couldn't get myself going to post it.   The adorable image by Sandra Caldwell, is #1086 Holiday Outfit.  The card is embossed with a Darice Martini folder and I've frosted the rim with glitter like the sugar frosted rim of the pomegranate martinis I make on Christmas Eve. I've also added some sequins and some shiny silver metallic jingle bells stickers. The sentiment is another from the Tim Holtz Holiday Talk sticker pack.

Here's a closeup of #1086 Holiday Outfit.  She's matted with silver metallic card stock and colored with Copics to look like ME.  I've added another jingle bell sticker to the end of her hat and some Stickles to the cuff for even more sparkle and shine.  Her jewelry was done with a metallic gel pen.

I'm also adding this to the DL.Art November Linky challenge, Creatalicious ATG/w optional Use a Sentiment, the CHNC Cute or Anything Christmas challenge and the CHNC Christmas Extra challenge for November.

I can See Clearly Now for The East Wind Facebook Contest

Yup, it's time for a new FB contest at The East Wind with the theme of "I Can See Clearly Now."  Huh?  Not so hard, unless you have glasses like mine,  LOL. No really, we just want to see something clear or transparent on your project. Could be acetate, vellum, Glossy Accents, you get the picture.  Anyway, I made a little winter scene using the adorable Aurora 'Kitty Trand'.

I've made a shaped card using Spellbinders Grand Regular and Decorative Labels One.  The frosty window she's looking out of is vellum I've embossed with a Darice folder under acetate with the "frostless" area cut with a Spellbinders Deckle Oval.  The little kitty sitting on the sill is an Impression Obsession die.  The sentiment is one of Tim Holtz's new little Christmas Sticker sayings.  (LOVE!)

Here's a closeup of Aurora 'Kitty Trand'.  (No, I have no idea what that name means.  Is it because I'm old?  No matter, I think she's just adorable, don't you?)  I used the no background png version atop digital paper from Gecko Galz and colored her entirely with Copics with no dramatic shading.  I just wanted a soft sweet image.

Here's the dimensional view.  I considered making this a shaker, but I would have had to add another layer of acetate since the frost was supposed to be on the inside of the window and I was running out of time.  I also would have run the risk of having whatever I put in to shake having a bunch of static and clouding the image so I blew off that idea.  I actually cut the turquoise fun foam that's between the layers with my dies in so it made a lovely clean edge.  Got some more clear or sheer stuff going on with the acrylic icicles, combo vellum and clear glitter snowflakes and some sheer organdy ribbon.  Guess I got it covered.

Hope you come join us in the TEW FB Group for this fun new challenge which runs through December 17th and don't forget our current Blog Challenge which runs though November 25th.

It's Christmas at Aurora Wings

Our brand new challenge starts today at Aurora Wings with the theme of Christmas.  EEEk!!! so many fabulous AW Christmas digis from which to choose. I finally narrowed it down to something that had to do with the Nutcracker ballet, certainly a beloved Christmas tradition, and then on to the adorable Nutcracker and Chipmunk Ballerina, furthering the fantasy.  So here I am with a gift bag again.  OOps, I did one for the last challenge as well, but that's how it turned out.  What can I say?  All the Dp came from The Ballet stack from Recollections, a pad I've had for at least as few years.

Here's a closeup of Nutcracker and Chipmunk Ballerina taken under my Ott light on my desk before attempting the fussy cutting.  (Trust me, I was sweatin' it!) I've colored with Copics and added some shading and fur detail with Prismacolor pencils.  I really had no plan when I started this project, except that I wanted to use the Ballet papers, so I colored accordingly, but printed much smaller than I usually do (since I had no idea what I was doing.  A card maybe?..NOT!).  This is about 3 1/2 by 4 1/2" so it was not only a bit of a challenge to color with detail, but also to fussy cut.  I'm happy that this photo picked up the sparkle of the gel pens I used in silver and gold.  Not so much of the Stickles on the tutu, but I'm still quite pleased.

Speaking of fussy cutting, the term really refers to cutting details from printed paper or ephemera, I'm sure before digital stamps were even invented. Everything you see here was cut from the pages of The Ballet Stack.  In this case I've cut around a portion of the holly at left to insert the sentiment, which I've also fussy cut from a square tag.

And here's some more fussy cutting for the entire area on which I've place the Nutcracker and Chipmunk Ballerina.  Fortunately this was a 12 x 12" pack so it was easy to fussy cut additional elements, like the two holly sprays on the right and left to balance the design and the strips at the top and bottom of the bag to finish it off.  Wow, not necessarily my usual style but the project came together nicely and I have one less present to wrap.  LOL  Be sure to visit the Aurora Wings Challenge Blog to be inspired by the rest of the Aurora Team's gorgeous projects.

And don't forget to enter our current FB Contest, Nature's Bounty, now through November 30th.

Here's how to keep up with all that's happening at Aurora Wings.

Oh Christmas Tree!

Whoa I've been crafting BIG time, but I'm way behind on blogging.  You're gonna see at least 3 posts today.  Two for DT's (so please come back) but first I've got this cutie from Sandra Caldwell called #97 Cat in the Christmas Tree. Fortunately my kitties pretty much leave our trees alone, but Jezebel did fancy the faux palm in the dining room when she was a kitten.

I chose the paper first and colored the image accordingly with Copics and added stickle shine to the lights and tiny acrylic bubbles to the ornaments.  (Hey, I was in a hurry and my Diamond Glaze and Glossy Accents take too long to dry.)  I used a Spellbinders nested Christmas Trees to cut out the digi (amazingly the right size for the largest one) and added two more in solid to give the illusion of the tree tipping.  Then I put the digi on an Action Wobble so it actually DOES tip.  I took a video, but I can't remember how to upload it, so you'll have to take my word for it.

Anyway, I used the sketch from the Outlawz Wednesday Sketch Challenge for my inspiration and mounted it all on a Spellbinders Labels One with the corners punch with a paw print.

I'm also adding this to the DL.Art November Linky challenge, SUYP Cat's Only Furrything Goes, Crafty Hazelnuts Cute or Anything Christmas, Creatalicious ATG with Optional Sentiment , C.R.A.F.T Christmas, Allsorts Oh Christmas Tree and Simon Says Stamp Christmas Critters.

#1071 Holiday Pig from Sandra Caldwell

The 12 Days of Christmas is still going strong in the Markers! Papers! Digis! FB Group and here is another of the $1.00 digis from Sandra Caldwell available through November 20th at this low price.  This little Holiday Pig is all decked out and I had a ball coloring him in the non traditional Christmas Colors I found in the  Paper Pack from the old Swell Noel paper pack from K&Co.  The sentiments are cut from the papers as well.  Look at all those pressies!  He's wishing he could dive right in, but it's not Christmas quite yet.

Here's a closeup of #1071 Holiday Pig.  He's colored with Copics and I gotta say, his expression makes me giggle.

I'll be entering him in the DL.Art November Linky Challenge, Simon Says Stamp Christmas Critters, the Outlawz Monday Greetings Family Gatherings challenge,  Crafting by Designs Little Animals, Creatalicious ATG with Optional Sentiment, Crafty Creations Animals, CHNC Coral a Little or a Lot, CHNC November Christmas Extra Anything Christmas, C.R.A.F.T. Christmas, and CHN November Patterned Paper Challenge.

More for 12 Days of Christmas

I'm having a really hard time keeping up with blogging, FB and creating for this 12 Days of Christmas event, but here is another cutie from Sandra Caldwell, #1060 Bearly a Snow Teddy, that I've made into an ATC to enter into the Wicked Wednesday Winter Challenge, as well as the Outlawz Festive Fridays for First Snowflake Day.  Used a Martha Stewart punch for more icicles and Stickles for some sparkle, along with mirror flakes and a Tim Holtz sentiment sticker.

I'm also adding this to the DL.Art November Linky Challenge, A Snowflake's Promise Seasons, C.R.A.F.T. Christmas, Crafting by Designs Little AnimalsInspiration Destination ATG, Simon Says Stamp Christmas Critters, Crafty Creations Animals.

A Quickie Get Well Card for Outlawz Twisted Thursday

I was all ready to give up and go with ATG for the Outlawz Twisted Thursday Challenge when I remembered this Frame it Red Wine image and Wine Digi papers from Bugaboo Stamps.  The image comes both with and without the sentiment, and I needed a "Get Well" one so I used the plain version and tweaked the sentiment to sort of fit the theme.  In case you can't read it, it says "Roses are red, so is my wine.  I refilled my glass hoping you'll be just fine. Works for me, anyway.  LOL  Quickly colored with Copics so there ya go.

Guest Designing for TTRCD

I'm thrilled to be joining the talented designers of Through the Craftroom Door as a GDT for this week's challenge.  The theme is always Anything Goes and our fabulous sponsor is Star Stampz.  I'm working with the adorable Me and My Snowman.  I wanted to create a winter scene so I fussy cut my image and popped it atop my Swirling Snowflakes die from Memory Box.  It looked a little small to me so I embossed an A2 card with a Cuttlebug Snowflake folder and mounted the card blank diagonally.  I also popped the sentiment stickers from Tim Holtz for additional dimension and added a snowflake for JoLee's.  I was inspired by the song "Walking in a Winter Wonderland".

Here's a closeup of the adorable Me and My Snowman.  They're colored entirely with Copics and I think they're as sweet as can be.  Thanks so much to TTRCD for this fabulous opportunity to join you this week.  I've had a ball.

I'm entering this in the DL.Art November Linky challenge, the Outlawz Saturday Paper a la Mode Baby It's Cold Outside Challenge, 613 Avenue Create ATG, Left of Center Inspired By... Days 4 and 5 of Sandra's 12 Days of Christmas at M!P!D!

I'm still hanging in there, but I'm struggling a bit with the 12 Days of Christmas, not because I'm not having fun, but we had a party to go to last night so I didn't get yesterday's posted, and then I had a GDT assignment due today plus Day 5 of the Markers! Papers! Digis! FB challenge to finish all on 4 hours of sleep (and a bit of a food AND wine hangover, to be honest).  YIKES!

So above is Day 4 of Sandra Caldwell's challenge using the adorable #941 Old Lady Candy Cane.  I decided to go a different route and make a treat box ornament from a Stampin' Up die and popped that cutie on top.  She's colored with Copics and I've added Stickle to the red on the candy cane so it sparkled like the DP I used.  I originally couldn't decide on peppermint or spearmint, so I went peppermint for the cane and spearmint for her hair.  LOL

Day 5 features # 109 Poinsettia Pretty and I went with non traditional Christmas colors from some old Stampin'Up DP and used the sketch from this week's Outlawz Wednesday Sketch Challenge.

I really struggled with this sketch but I finally got it to work for me by tweaking it a bit.  Close enough, I'm thinking, although I always find it hard now to follow a sketch exactly.

Here's a closeup of #109 Poinsettia Pretty.  She's colored with Copics and I've used a Prismacolor pencil for hair detail.  I tried to color the poinsettia like the cool peachy pink mottled ones you see now and again.  You can tell I'm tied because I forgot her pearl earrings but I just can't bring myself to take more pix and watermark again so you'll just have to use your imagination.  LOL

Remember, you can jump in any time from the 9th to the 20th at Markers! Papers! Digis! and all of Sandra's $1 digis will be available though Nov 20th HERE.

I'm also adding this to the DL.Art November Linky Challenge, CHNC November Christmas Challenge ExtraCHNC Christmas #307 Coral (or close color) and CHN November Patterned Paper challenge

CAS for the Outlawz

I kind of struggle with CAS cards, so I always check out the Outlawz Sunday CAS challenge and see if I can give it a go.  Okay, it took me all week, but here's what I came up with for their Fantasy (use a mythical creature) challenge.  Well, you can bet there are mostly fairies flitting about, but they mentioned trolls so I immediately thought of the OGRE (only $1.50!) from Bloobel Stamps.  I thought with his cute little hat, he'd be fun on a Christmas card, so I set him in a winter wonderland of torn snow banks (embossed with a snow flurries Cuttlebug die) and added little cardinals (cut from the "birds on a wire punch by MS) to a "magnificent pine" from Memory Box.  the sentiment are stices from Tim Holtz.

Here's a closeup of Ogre.  I've colored him with Copics and added a bit of shading with Prismacolor pencils.  What a HOOT!  He totally cracks me up!  Ready to party he surely is and would be great for a guy's birthday card too, don'cha think?

I'll also be adding him to the DL.Art November Linky Challenge, Left of Center (under the Fairytales or LOC theme), 613 Avenue Create November ATG (#3 of 8),  Aud Sentiments ATG +Sentiment, Scrapy Land ATG + die that Scrapy Land sells, Dies R Us Thankful for Nature, Lil Patch of Crafty Friends #45 ATG (3 of 3), Creative Craft Cottage Christmas (3 of 3) and A Snowflakes' Promise Seasons.

12 Days of Christmas at Markers! Papers! Digis!

There's an event going on in the Markers! Papers! Digis! FB Group called the 12 Days of Christmas that runs from November 9-20. Sandra Caldwell is kicking off the event and sponsoring all 12 days by offering 12 Christmas digis for only $1.00 each.  You can find them all HERE or just by going to the Shop and sorting from lowest to highest price.

We're on Day 3 and although you needn't necessarily make a project for each day, here's my tag for Day 2 using #51 Old Lady Elf.  I think she's adorable, don't you?  The Papers and sentiment are from the new 6x6 Holly Jolly pack by Pebbles.  The embossed punched border was done with an ancient MS punch.

I'm entering this in the DL.Art November Linky Challenge, Creatalicious ATG/optional Not a Card, Creative Craft Cottage Christmas (2 of 3).

Day 3 features  #1089 Christmas Present Tree and I've colored it according to the Outlawz Tuesday Color Challenge and added the prerequisite snowflakes as well.  There are a few extra Copic colors but I've used all of the featured ones, as well as adding some Stickles to the lights to makes them glow and a bit to the snow and tree for sparkle.

I'm adding also adding this to A Snowflakes Promise Seasons challenge

Day 1 featured #399 Santa Coffee Break , who I did color but did not have time to add him to a project.  Wednesday was hair appointment and errand day, so I got home pretty late.  This still allowed me to be considered for the daily prize. Sandra's $1.00 digis will be available through November 20th and you can jump in any time during the challenge, or not at all, and just grab some fabulous bargains.

Happy Birthday, Chickie!

Do you ever think that you're trying to play in too many places at once?  Here's a quickie I just managed to finish under the wire for the Outlawz Festive Fridays.  I chose National Chicken Lady Day (seriously, there's a National Chicken Lady Day?) so I could use the adorable #600 Kicking Chicken by Sandra Caldwell.  She's colored with Copics and cut with a Spellbinders Postage Stamp die. (Forgot I even had that one.)  Papers all from an ancient 6x6 Basic Grey Pad called Lemonade.  Finished the card AND the post in record time. Woohoo!

I'm also entering this in the DL.Art November Linky Challenge and Crafty Hazelnut's November Patterned Paper Challenge.

Aurora 'Flower Fairy'

Today I'm showcasing the new release from The East Wind today called Aurora 'Flower Fairy'.  Isn't she beautiful?  As soon as I saw her I remembered some DP I'd been hoarding from the Kioshi Collection by Basic Gray and I managed to actually find it.  WooHoo!  While looking for matting, I found a Spellbinder's Oval, already cut, which worked with the colors.  I knew I wanted to add even more butterflies and found the perfect ones from Memory Box which I cut apart to spread the design and a lonely blue flower lying on the craft room floor that finished my design off perfectly.  What serendipity!  It's gonna be a good day.

Here's a closeup of Aurora 'Flower Fairy'.  I used the no background png version and printed her on digi paper from Gecko Galz.  She's colored with Copics with just a tinge of shading from Prismacolor pencils.  I didn't put a sentiment on my card, because I think she could be used for a number of different occasion.  You can see more inspiration from my teamies on the TEW Group page.  Don't forget, our Current FB contest, Come over to the Dark Side, runs through November 17th and you have 2 more days to enter the Blog Challenge, Thanks for the Memories, in honor of Alzheimer's Awareness.  Hope to see you there.

My Favorite Quote for Aurora Wings

A new challenge begins today at the Aurora Wings Challenge Blog with the theme of "My Favorite Quote".  I've made a gift bag using the gorgeous Mask of Leaves.  Autumn is my favorite season and I tried to capture the beauty of the season using the colors and textures that Autumn brings to mind.  There are many beautiful quotes about Autumn, but I was especially touched by one from John Donne.  I'll speak a more about my choice a little later, if you don't mind. I think it deserves a paragraph of it's own.

I've cut the image and matted using my Spellbinders Grand Labels Four.  The gorgeous paper is another oldie from Kay&Co.  I've added texture with paper leaves from Recollections as well as real copper toned skeleton leaves.  I've distressed the May Arts mesh ribbon.  (Actually I was looking for my cheesecloth and couldn't find it in my stash.  Big surprise!)  the lovely deep rust crinkle ribbon that holds the tag sentiment is from DL.Art.

Here's a closeup of the gorgeous Mask of Leaves.  She's colored with Copics with just a touch of shading with Prismacolor pencils.  I've used Autumn hues, but you can see the versatility of this image on the Aurora Wings Showcase Blog HERE.  I see a Christmas card in her future for sure.

I've added the quote as a tag cut with Spellbinders Labels Eleven.  The back was cut from corrugated cardstock packaging with leaves between the layers and a copper heart charm.  The beautiful quote is by John Donne.

"No spring nor summer beauty has such grace
as I have seen in one autumnal face."

I love it because it not only speaks of the beauty of Autumn, my favorite season, but also of the beauty and grace he sees in his love's face as she ages. It kind of brings tears to my eyes.  Love goggles?  Maybe, but one can only hope for such everlasting love and devotion.

Please visit the Challenge Blog to be inspired by the Stella team's choice of quotes and beautiful projects. the new November FB Contest, Nature's Bounty, is also in full swing in the Stamps by Aurora Wings FB Group.  We hope you come join the fun.

Here's how to keep up with all that's happening at Aurora Wings.
